Играем в Zork

Игра Colossal Cave Adventure ("Пещера") была разработана выпускниками Стенфорда. Когда игра попала на кампус MIT, конечно, все студенты были повально увлечены. Через несколько недель, пройдя игру и изучив все тонкости, у народа сыграло самолюбие. Негоже отставать от Стенфорда: мы здесь, в MIT, должны показать класс и тоже сделать не хуже. Летом 1977 стартовал проект Zork. Разработка заняла два года: в 1979 вышла первая версия. К 1982 году Zork был портирован на кучу платформ и стал самой продаваемой игрой. Фактически народ, покупая новый компьютер, тут же приобретал к нему Zork. Позже вышли два продолжения игры: Zork II и Zork III.

Для текстовых игр типа Zork была разработана стандартная "виртуальная машина" Z-machine. Игры поставлялись как файл данных в формате ZCODE, и интерпретатор виртуальной машины "проигрывал" игру на конкретной компьютерной платформе. Реализаций Z-машины позже появилось несколько, в том числе и опенсорсные. Нынче популярностью пользуется Frotz. Установить Frotz на маке можно командой "brew install frotz", на Линуксе "sudo apt install frotz".

Имея Frotz, скачиваем и запускаем игру Zork:
