Играем в LambdaMOO

На самом деле это не совсем игра. LambdaMOO это виртуальная вселенная, где можно проводить время, общаться с другими игроками и достраивать реальность. Можно создавать новые "комнаты", объекты и задавать их поведение на языке программирования MOO.

Игра гремела в начале 90-х. Народ чего там только не насоздавал. Сейчас там тишина, хотя некоторое количество народа залогинено (45 человек, из них четверо активны, не считая меня).

The Coat Closet
The closet is a dark, cramped space. It appears to be very crowded in here;
you keep bumping into what feels like coats, boots, and other people
(apparently sleeping). One useful thing that you've discovered in your
bumbling about is a metal doorknob set at waist level into what might be a
door. Next to it is a spring lever labeled 'QUIET!'.
There is new news. Type `news' to read all news or `news new' to read just
new news.

You open the closet door and leave the darkness for the living room, closing
the door behind you so as not to wake the sleeping people inside.
The Living Room
It is very bright, open, and airy here, with large plate-glass windows looking
southward over the pool to the gardens beyond. On the north wall, there is a
rough stonework fireplace. The east and west walls are almost completely
covered with large, well-stocked bookcases. An exit in the northwest corner
leads to the kitchen and, in a more northerly direction, to the entrance
hall. The door into the coat closet is at the north end of the east wall,
and at the south end is a sliding glass door leading out onto a wooden deck.
There are two sets of couches, one clustered around the fireplace and one
with a view out the windows.

Ну если быть до конца нудным, то это вторая ветвь мудов.

Первая ветвь - MUDs (multiusers dungeons/dimensions/domains) это игра в готовом мире в жанре rpg, hack and slash или quest или все вместе

А вторая ветвь - аналогичные по интерфейсу миры, где игра заключается в создании комнат и объектов. Есть например одно из общих названий такого MUSH - multiusers shared hallucinations. И MOO сюда же относятся.

И учитывая что большинство этих игр open source, а ресурсов они требуют крайне мало, серверов сотни, правда большинство совсем не посещаемые (совсем от слова ноль)

Ну и есть каталоги всей это русофобии

Первая ветвь MUDs - там народ получал удовольствие от смертоубийства. Мочили друг друга при первой возможности. Зарабатывали авторитет и бонусы.

LambdaMOO - яркий представитель второй ветви, когда смертоубийство наскучило и захотелось креатива. Отличие в том, что здесь каждый игрок может строить, а не только уровня wizard.

Потом их много появилось. Каждый толковый студент считал своим долгом создать свою виртуальную тусовку. Редко какие из них выжили.
