Citywide Curfew

Update from 6/2/2020: The City of Santa Clara has lifted the order that established a citywide curfew effective May 31, 2020 from 8:30 p.m. to 5 a.m. While two businesses – Walgreens and Skechers - experienced some vandalism Monday night, June 1, the eminent threat of larger scale looting throughout Santa Clara can now be managed through regular police authority. The local state of emergency remains in effect as the City maintains vigilance and the ability to respond quickly to any threats to public safety.

For more details, view the statement from City Manager Deanna J. Santana.

Update from 6/1/2020: Due to civil unrest in the neighboring city of San José that has resulted in some looting and recent rioting, City Manager Deanna J. Santana in her role as the Director of Emergency Services declared a local state of emergency for Santa Clara on Sunday night, May 31, 2020.

In collaboration with Mayor Lisa M. Gillmor and the Santa Clara Police Department, City Manager Deanna J. Santana issued a citywide curfew which went into effect Sunday, May 31, 2020 from 8:30 p.m. to 5 a.m., beginning daily until future notice.

About the Citywide Curfew

During the curfew, no person shall be upon the public street, avenue, alley, park, or other public place or unimproved public realty within the limits of the city of Santa Clara. This curfew does not apply to police officers, peace officers, firefighters, or other emergency personnel or civilians engaged in police, emergency, government work, delivery services, essential business or utility services, nor shall it apply to authorized representatives of any news service, newspaper, or radio or television station or network, nor shall it apply to individuals seeking or providing medical care or care for family members or others, or any persons experiencing homelessness.

The Santa Clara Police Department will exercise reasonableness as individuals make their way about the city, particularly those individuals going to and from work and facilitating deliveries. The curfew will be utilized as a tool, if necessary, to combat the threat of looting/raiding.

When there is no longer a credible threat to the safety of our community, the City will terminate the curfew. The City is continuing to monitor the situation closely.

Вот меня радует, как у нас это все резонно и разумно делается.

Как в немецкой деревне: после восьми никого на улицах нет.
